Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening. Mike Penders punched a corner into his own net on 77 minutes, Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card, and Mathys Tel finished it with a solo goal on 87. Seven fan YouTubers watched it so you don't have to.
It's only Spurs' second Premier League win at Stamford Bridge. It was also Chelsea's first home league defeat of the season, in the pouring rain, with Spurs on almost 70% of the ball. One set of rooms is singing. The other is drafting a complaint.
Roberto De Zerbi: the masterclass at the Bridge
HenryTalksTottenham calls it "our best performance so far of the season" and says De Zerbi "absolutely schooled Xabi Alonso on every single metric." His man of the match isn't Tel. It's Mateus Fernandes: "We just saw a man of the match display for Fernandes." On the passing, he loved "the way we sprayed it like Banksy out to the wingers." Art critics may disagree. Spurs fans won't.
Even the neutrals came round. SaeedTV, a United man, calls it a De Zerbi masterclass and Fernandes's night "a flawless performance". Then he looks at his own club: "I see zero coaching for Michael Carrick." Nobody is safe on SaeedTV, least of all the channel's own team.
Mike Penders and Mathys Tel: the two goals
The opener came from a Fernandes corner. Penders, 21 and on his first Premier League start, went to punch and put it into his own net. WeAreTottenhamTV had a plan for him all along: "We said test him the whole first half." The second was Tel's. He picked it up inside his own half, ran past Josh Acheampong, cut inside Maxence Lacroix and finished low. The studio's verdict: "Tottenham have done the impossible."
Xabi Alonso: Chelsea's rooms want answers
GBFC starts by owning his prediction: "I've got this one totally wrong." Chelsea had under 30% of the ball in the first half, per ESPN. "We were second to every ball," he says, and adds that it "wasn't even the Chelsea that lost at the Emirates." With Joao Pedro injured and Morgan Rogers up front as a false nine, he says Chelsea had no focal point.
MatisseArmani opens with "I'm hyperventilating" and gets angrier. His charge against Alonso is about the touchline: "you stood there in the pouring rain and watched that performance and you did nothing about it." The line that will sting most: "You're making Tottenham look like Manchester City."
Cole Palmer: first booking, then the second
Palmer was booked for barging into Fernandes, then got his second yellow card about ten minutes later for a lunge on Conor Gallagher. It's the first red card of his career, per BBC Sport, and it rules him out of Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie at Anfield. Alonso called it "one to learn for the future for sure."
HarryCFXI filmed his review with the game still going, which tells you the mood. He's careful to say he isn't calling for Alonso out. He's just as clear that "losing to Tottenham at home is unacceptable", and his message to the manager is short: "You're in trouble."
The argument: a turning point or a bad night?
The Spurs rooms are already doing the maths. Two league wins in six days, after Coventry, and WeAreTottenhamTV says the De Zerbi "project is fully up and running". Even AdikasTakes, who'd called them useless, offers "heavy praise" while refusing "to apologize to you quite yet."
The Chelsea rooms are split. Some blame one bad night without Joao Pedro. Others blame the man who picked the team. GBFC calls it a "reality check". Chelsea go to Anfield on Wednesday without Palmer. If that goes badly too, the argument stops being about one bad night.
