City and Brighton YouTubers react to a 0-1 at the Etihad

Brighton finally win a league game at City, Matheus Nunes has an afternoon to forget, and City's fan channels can't agree whether it was bad luck, bad finishing or a midfield experiment gone wrong.

City and Brighton YouTubers react to a 0-1 at the Etihad

Brighton beat Manchester City 1-0 in the Premier League at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon, their first away league win over City, and the fan YouTubers on both sides are still working out what it means. Yasin Ayari scored on 11 minutes after Matheus Nunes missed Diego Gómez's cross and the ball came back off Maxim De Cuyper. City had 21 shots, saw Bart Verbruggen tip Iliman Ndiaye's effort onto the bar, and didn't score. It is a second league defeat in a row for Enzo Maresca. Brighton are third, two points behind.

Maresca said City are "conceding silly goals that we can avoid". Fabian Hürzeler said his players "suffered but they stuck together". Six fan channels watched it so you don't have to.

Man City: beaten by themselves, again

EsteemedKompany skipped the full-time reaction to go trick-or-treating, slept on it and came back calmer. Not calm. "It feels like we've been beaten by ourselves and we can't keep doing that." He works hard to separate frustration from panic, then admits he can feel "a big old question mark hovering above Manchester City right now".

TypicalCity arrives with a spreadsheet and a grievance. By his count, all three of City's errors leading to goals this season have come in the last two games, and his verdict on the right-back is short: "Nunes cost us the game at both ends of the pitch." He also wants to know why City keep starting half asleep: "Why are we starting games so slowly right now? It's driving me insane." He counts the handball shouts against Lewis Dunk too. Hold that thought.

Man City: the Bouaddi experiment goes on trial

The selection story is the midfield. Maresca started Ayyoub Bouaddi, Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernández together, with Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden on the bench. Nobbins rewatched it and has a theory: Bouaddi spent most of his afternoon man-marking Brighton's holding midfielder, which pulled City's best natural six up front and left, in his words, "no midfield" whenever Brighton got through. His fix fits on a scarf: "Go back to basics." TypicalCity, for the record, swears by the heat maps that it was a 4-3-3 and Bouaddi "did not play in the 10". Two City analysts, one midfielder, no agreement.

Big Steve MCFC liked the team on paper, thought Cherki "got us going again" after replacing Bouaddi on 55 minutes, and refuses to join the Fernández pile-on: "People need to relax. It's a very very young team." His summary of the afternoon is the one every fan has said on a slow walk back to the car: "we could have played till midnight yesterday and I don't think we would have scored."

Brighton: the holy grail of grounds

SeagullsSocial had a man in the away end who got home at 1am and did not mind one bit. The Etihad was "the holy grail of grounds" for Brighton, and this was "a proper balls to the wall performance". As for those City handball appeals, the Brighton verdict is three words long: "Read the rules."

Talk Seagulls recorded on Saturday night still in mild shock, because Brighton games are supposed to follow a script: "We'll bottle it. We'll throw it away." It didn't happen. Verbruggen gets the loudest ovation of the evening ("Bart Verbruggen, have my children"), and the panel admits Brighton rode their luck before deciding they had earned it anyway. "This is a winning team."

The argument: one of them days, or a pattern?

City's rooms agree on the facts: a gifted goal, a pile of missed chances and a goalkeeper in inspired form. They disagree on the diagnosis. Big Steve calls it "one of them days". TypicalCity has the error count. Nobbins blames the finishing and the midfield plan. Brighton's rooms have no such problem: they won at the holy grail, and a long train home has never felt shorter.

City go to RB Leipzig on Wednesday. EsteemedKompany, who got the trick on Halloween rather than the treat, has one request before then: "Don't make this a thing, City."
