City and PSG YouTubers preview Wednesday night at the Etihad

The holders come to Manchester for City's first home game since the guilty verdicts. City Xtra has Maresca asking what everyone wants from them, EsteemedKompany defend the right to enjoy it, and Paris Central PSG say Paris have run out of places to hide.

City have just won 3-0 at Anfield, been told the three points don't count, and now get the two-time holders under the lights. That's the mood going into Wednesday at the Etihad. Manchester City host PSG at 20:00 BST (21:00 CEST) on matchday two of the Champions League league phase. It's also City's first home game since the guilty verdicts on the Premier League charges, which City have appealed. Nobody in either set of rooms is pretending this is just another league-phase night.

"What do you want us to do?"

City Xtra cut Enzo Maresca's Tuesday press conference under a headline that tells you exactly where City's head is: "CRITICISED? WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO?!" The criticism is about the celebrations at Anfield. Maresca's answer, as BBC Sport reported it: "We won 3-0 at Anfield, what do you want us to do?" He also said the obvious bit out loud: "We need the perfect performance because they are the best team in Europe."

City Xtra put up Ruben Dias as well, and the captain's line made their title: "People don't love us winning, and we love to win." That's the siege mentality in one sentence. Pep Guardiola will be in the building too, back at the Etihad for the first time since he left in the summer. Maresca's take: "it's still his house."

Do the wins still count?

EsteemedKompany went straight at the question every City fan has been hearing since Sunday: "So...do Man City's wins still matter then?" Their City Social podcast is about the reaction to the win at Anfield and why fans still have a right to enjoy the football. Rival rooms won't love that. It's still the honest version of where City supporters are this week.

Strip the noise out and the football is going quite well. Eight wins from eight in all competitions under Maresca, a 2-0 at Porto on matchday one with Erling Haaland scoring both, and Phil Foden available again after his domestic ban. Nobbins spent his Tuesday live on City's game breakers and the PSG preview. Right question, too. Anfield was 0-0 until Liverpool went down to ten men. Who opens up the best side in Europe when nobody hands you a red card?

Paris have run out of places to hide

Over on the other side, Paris Central PSG have gone stern. "Le PSG n'a plus le droit de se cacher": PSG aren't allowed to hide any more. Their argument is that weeks of injuries, rotation and reshuffled line-ups are coming to an end, Luis Enrique is getting his key men back, and a squad this good can't play the outsider card. Strong words about a club that has won the last two Champions Leagues.

That's the Paris paradox. They beat Inter in the 2025 final and Arsenal in 2026, then opened this campaign with a 6-1 over Slovan Bratislava: Ousmane Dembélé two, Ferran Torres a hat-trick. Saturday's 3-1 over Le Mans came with nine changes, and Dembélé and Nuno Mendes were rested. Good results, a slow-ish start in Ligue 1, and a fanbase that still wants to see the big-night version turn up.

The tactics room

PSGINT did the homework with a full tactical breakdown of the matchup. It's the one to watch if you want the shape of the game rather than the noise around it. The subplot everyone has clocked is in goal: Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to start for City against the club he won the Champions League with.

The last meeting still stings in Manchester. In the 2024-25 league phase, City were 2-0 up early in the second half in Paris and lost 4-2. That one still gets remembered in Paris.

The neutral with a grudge

Khwaja Talks Football is an Arsenal channel, which makes his City v PSG debate more fun than it should be. Arsenal fans have a view on both of these. One beat them in the last Champions League final. The other is top of the Premier League.

The French live rooms are already set up for kick-off. ParisienEnDirect, Gx parisien, Still Jess and Parisien 88 Debrief all have City v PSG shows lined up.

The argument

City want this to be about football. PSG's own fans want it to be about whether Paris are still the team that won two in a row. Win at the Etihad and Maresca's "what do you want us to do?" becomes the line of the week. Lose to the holders on the night Guardiola is back in the stands, and every rival room will say the noise finally got in.
