Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Thursday night, and the fan YouTubers came out of the Hill Dickinson Stadium in very different moods. Everton are in the quarter-finals and heading to Fleetwood Town, the League Two side who knocked out Arsenal. Newcastle, backed by what their channels put at 8,000 travelling fans, are out.
James Garner curled in the opener on 34 minutes after Tyrique George harried Amar Dedić off the ball. Hayden Hackney scored his first Everton goal on the stroke of half-time, after the referee waved play on, and Thierno Barry finished a counter-attack on 69 minutes. Dan Burn headed in a late consolation. Jack Grealish missed the game after Everton dropped him for a disciplinary breach. The two sides meet again at St James' Park on Monday night.
Everton's rooms: job done, and a Fleetwood draw to dream on
Baz at ToffeeTV calls it "job done really for Everton" and says Garner "really looked like tonight he was back at it". He saves his loudest defence for Barry, who he credits with "nine goal contributions in 11 games" and tells the critics to get behind. He isn't all sunshine. The referee "really was poor all night", and Jake O'Brien should have stopped Burn's header: "He's got to be jumping into Burn."
Sam at The Toffee Blues recorded his reaction on the way out of the ground and sounds slightly surprised by his own team. "I didn't expect it to be so comfortable to be honest," he says. Newcastle were better for half an hour, he admits, but Everton "were fully deserving of it". He's already eyeing a cup run, with no disrespect to Fleetwood.
Falcon Blues TV keeps it short and gleeful. "We just spanked the Magpies," he says from the stand. Burn's late goal annoys him more than it should: "he just turns up, doesn't he?" He also wants to know why Newcastle were in pink. "I don't know why they were wearing pink."
Newcastle's rooms: all those shots, one header
TheToonReview thinks Barnes should have had a penalty ("It was a penalty for me") but won't hide behind it. The defending for the first two goals was "unforgivable", and the forwards "are pussycats up front". He still isn't calling for Matthias Jaissle's head, though. "It's the players. The players can't finish." His line on the season so far: "These aren't speed bumps we're going over the bloody mountains, man."
BinksNUFC counts "29 shots. 10 on target" and opens with "So so wasteful". Then he asks the question nobody wants asked: "Do they actually care?" He points out that Joelinton, Fabian Schär, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock all played in the relegation scraps under Steve Bruce, and they're still in the squad years later. "It's really scary."
The Magpie Channel TV handles it with jokes. "Three stinks for the three goals," he says, and mourns the away day that won't happen: "No Fleetwood Mac for us." Newcastle didn't test Jordan Pickford's "little dino arms" enough, he says, after "nearly a billion quid spent". The late shoving match between Newcastle and Everton players was, he says, "honestly, the best part of the game".
The argument: Everton's cup run or Newcastle's Monday?
Everton haven't won a trophy since 1995, and their channels can see a semi-final from here. Newcastle's channels, whose side won this cup in 2025, are now arguing about whether this squad has any finishers at all. Nobody has to wait long for the rematch. St James' Park on Monday will tell us whether Thursday was a one-off or the form guide.
