Spurs and Coventry YouTubers react to a 3-1 at Tottenham

Seven games, one win. Maddison scores a beauty against his boyhood club, Kulusevski is back, and Coventry would like a word about the elbow.

Spurs and Coventry YouTubers react to a 3-1 at Tottenham

Spurs beat Coventry 3-1 on Monday night for their first Premier League win of the season, at the seventh attempt. James Maddison scored a beauty on his first Premier League start since April 2025, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies added the rest, and Spurs climb off the bottom. Six fan YouTubers on both sides have had their say.

The short version. Maddison sent a first-time shot into the top corner on 14 minutes after a Mohammed Kudus pass, against the club he grew up at, with the away end booing his every touch. Jack Rudoni equalised four minutes into the second half once Jan Paul van Hecke lost the ball. Marmoush put Spurs back in front just before the hour, though Coventry were furious that he had caught Milan van Ewijk with an elbow first. Davies made it 3-1 in the 96th minute. Spurs and Coventry are both on six points, with Spurs 16th on goal difference.

James Maddison: the number 10 Spurs forgot they had

WeAreTottenhamTV opens like a fire drill. "This is not a drill, people. Tottenham have won a game of football." They admit it wasn't pretty. The xG was 0.87 to 0.82, and Coventry's goal was "just statues in the box". Quality won it. Maddison, they say, was "orchestrating absolutely everything" in the first half, and they reckon Spurs haven't had a proper 10 in years.

LANEN17TV gives the win to the manager first and Maddison a close second. "James Maddison today was a league above everybody else," he says. "He's a maverick." The praise stops at the goalkeeper. On Rudoni's equaliser: "Kinsky has to get sold. He can't be the number one." He also has a reality check for anyone already booking Europe. "We should be beating teams like Coventry."

Kulusevski: one run, and the crowd remembered how to sing

Sarah Spurs From The Stands was in the ground and sounds like it. "Spurs fans, it is safe to come back out." She says the difference with Maddison on the pitch is "absolutely night and day", and that Spurs lost all their creativity once he went off. Then Dejan Kulusevski came on for his first appearance since May 2025. "From that point on when Kulusevski came on the pitch, the fans were singing non-stop."

HotspurHippie admits it took him a while to warm up. At 1-0, he says, "It's so bloody quiet there." What woke him up wasn't the goals. "It wasn't when Kulusevski came on. It was when he had his first run up the pitch." He shouted "Go on, son" at the telly. "Must be familiarity." Same goes for the man who scored the third. "Ben Davies. Familiar. Good player. Proper Tottenham."

Coventry: the elbow, the badge and the boyhood club

Sky Blue Review isn't having the scoreline. "3-1 does flatter them," and "I don't think their second goal should have stood." In their eyes it was an elbow, but the referee let it stand and VAR didn't step in. Worse, they reckon Spurs "only need to play poor to beat us at our best." And then there's Maddison. "The geezer hasn't had a start in nearly 2 years, and he just took the mic. And he's a Coventry boy." One of them is "still fuming about him kissing the badge."

SBATV - Coventry City Fans keeps it short and doesn't calm down. "It was a great goal. You can't take that away." The rest of the clip is about the celebration. "Kissing the Spurs badge in front of the Cov fans, in front of the camera, rubbing it in." The verdict: "You're a snake, mate." Maddison may not be getting a Christmas card from Coventry this year.

The argument: a turning point, or just Coventry?

The Spurs rooms are happy, but nobody is getting carried away. WeAreTottenhamTV and LANEN17TV both point out the chance creation was worse than in the draw at Old Trafford, and that Van Hecke and Kinsky are still a worry. Everyone agrees that Maddison makes Spurs a different team. Coventry's rooms blame a refereeing call, one brilliant Maddison strike and a soft third. LANEN17TV says "the real test is going to be Chelsea this weekend". Sarah has the line for the rest of the season. "We don't want to be celebrating our first win in October every season, you know?"
